We (me and litte i) spent WWKIP Day (World Wide Knit in Public Day) with the Stockholm Knitters at Maria torget and Marias Garn, and had a wonderful time. I did, unfortunately, not get a chance to take any photos. Maria and Catrin were more mindful and you can find some picture proof over at Marias Garnhändelser or Everyday Life.

This feeling is going to change me

The new jeans I bought before christmas to congratulate myself for loosing all my pregnancy kilos are too loose fitting now. I do not mind. I feel light. Ready for change.

I apologize in advance for my irradic postings. I hope to find a new routine, but I am not counting on it right now. So, why all these sudden words?

We have bought a little house! It is a small, bright and very interesting structure which will fit our family perfectly. An old school building will be rebuilt into a string of houses with a small patch of grass in the middle. It includes a lot of work on our part, designing everything inside, but I do love that our house has a history. For so many reasons. It appeals to my heart and my soul.

I have a strong need to stay firmly connected and grounded throughout this process. The move is sure short in distance, but it has stirred such a strong rediscovery and re-evaluation of my core values.

Will you stay with me on my journey? Even if I do not write about knitting in every other post?

There will, on the other hand, be posts about building progress, scandinavian interior design, lots of worries, failed sewing attempts, chaos gardening AND knitting.

My next post for example, will have lots of knitting in it. Not my own, but by someone very talented.

Hope you will have a Happy Easter holiday!

Back from black

This is just a quick, meaningless post to break the awful silence that has reigned here at the minemma blog lately. It is a sort of I-just-need-to-get-over-it-and-start-posting-again post. I could blame it on a dark and dreary December, but I remember too much light and happiness. I could also say there were three birthdays and a funeral*, but lets just move on.

There are a few finished things I would like to show you. I am just waiting for the camera battery to finish charging.

My maternity leave is over by the way. Over a year filled with cuddles, kisses and slow motion living is over. I am back to the fast lane. Well, as fast as it gets at a museum.

Ok. See you all soon. That is a promise.

*The birthday “kids” were Ivar (yay!), my dad and my brother in law. The sudden death was not a relative, but a co-worker. Sadly missed.

Eight things about me

My Candle Flame Shawl is almost finished and I have started on a red knit cap for Kristofer. He asked me to knit him a hat just like the one that Willem Dafoe wears in the film “Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou“. That was almost two years ago… so I hope he still wants to wear it once it is finished. You can get an idea of what it will look like in here.

My brain is totally fogged with sleeplessness. All I can crank out of it is lists. So here it goes - ten things you did not know about me (edit: well, eight really….sorry) :

  1. I love to feel the surface I walk on. As soon as I come home I throw away both shoes and socks and walk around barefoot.
  2. Books are probably my second passion after knitting. I love reading and can get completely engulfed in a story. Right now I am reading “The Best a Man Can Get” by John O’Farrell, which might not be a wise choice considering my fragile new mom state.
  3. Or, music might be my second passion. I can never make up my mind about this. Our home is rarely silent during the days. You are welcome to view my musical profile at Last.fm
  4. I love to dance around to music when nobody is watching. Well, just my family because they all hop around with me. Is that weird?
  5. I truly belive I can sing, when I sing along to a beautiful song. But when the music stops it does not ever sound as good as I thought it would. Hmm…
  6. A balanced healthy nature is very important to me and I try to make ecological choices whenever possible.
  7. I know the names of many trees, flowers, birds and wildlife. Probably because I grew up in the middle of a forest. I hope to teach my kids some of this knowledge.
  8. I love my family more than I can describe with words. Each and every one of them in their special way.

I hope your are all having a great weekend!

Thinking of yarn again

I have finally picked up my knitting again after the birth of Ivar. It did not result in anything grand or spectacular. Not yet anyhow. ;-) My Candle Flame Shawl got a few rows bigger, thats all. I just love knitting the Candle Flame! The pattern is easy to remember and has enough variation to keep me interested. It also helps that it looks more complicated than it actually is. Sitting there, knitting happily, I made a quick list of a few new projects. Not that I have the patterns or the yarn to start with the list. It might be absolutely necessary to purchase a new fabulous book and some luscious yarn, do you not agree? Smile

If I am brave enough I will not start with anything new until I have organized my WIPs. If I am really brave I might post photos of my WIP list here… It is just a bit embarrassing since I must be the slowest knitter in the world

I am slowly adjusting to life with two kids. My wound is still awkward, but as much as I hate having my scar I am so so thankful that the incision saved my baby and myself for any serious damage. We might never get an answer to why my placenta separated prematurely or if it could somehow have been prevented. I do not know if it matters, but at least any kind of answer would help me to stop thinking about it.

Last night I danced slowly with Ivar in my arms to the tunes of Jack Johnson, which seemed to settle his little tummy and put him into sweet sleep.

Family photo 2006

From all of us to all of you with lots of love - We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Our family photo was greatly inspired by this poster from the album Sufjan Stevens - Songs For Christmas. Hope you like it! Big Smile

We are home!

Let me introduce you to my new knitting model, 47 cm and 2.5 kg.

Me and our baby boy Ivar are finally home on a visit! It is impossible to describe exactly how good it feels to have both my children and my darling Kristofer all in the same place. We will have to go back to the hospital tomorrow to do another full check up on Ivar, who has a some mysterious blood in his stomach. Meanwhile, we stock up on many hugs and kisses.

Away in a manger

We had, six weeks early, a little baby boy on the 6th of December. He is absolutely beautiful and as you might imagine rather small. The birth was a bit of a drama. I was not prepared at all for a delivery and had planned to keep on working until Christmas.

None of my baby knits are finished, or the right size for that matter. I am so thankful that despite the early arrival, the sudden incision and the current hospital stay - we are doing quite fine. There is still some worries to be solved before we can go home, but I hope me and our baby will be home for Christmas.

I long for my family, especially my daughter who has not met her little brother yet. You will not hear from me in a little while, but please do not worry. I have got a new love in my life to add to the ones I already cherish. I am blessed.

Hugs,
Emma

Let’s Hear That String Part Again

I am growing. It is the strangest feeling to carry a new little life around with you everywhere you go. It is both a bit freaky and very cozy. I will tell you a bit more about it, but first – some knitting.

Many fellow Sthlm knitters have been knitting these beautiful Candle Flame Shawls and I finally gave in to the craving and started one myself.

It grows fast and is a fun pattern. The yarn is a wooly dream in pink and purple from a Swedish manufacturer. This is also why I will have to either gift it or swap it. Purple, however beautiful, does give my very pale skin a greenish tint.

The weather is getting colder and my four-year-old needs a new pair of socks. It gave me the perfect excuse to learn how to make two-at-once toe-up socks on a magic loop. I really wanted to avoid the mistake from last year, when we all had just one sock each when the snow fell. Tutorials can be found at Knitty.
