Cobblestones

Do you call it a cast on when you are still swatching? Well, I have swatched for the Cobblestone pullover by Jared Flood (who has a beautiful blog btw) from Interweave Knits. I will work but I am not hitting exact gauge. I am substituting the recommended yarn for Rowan Felted Tweed.

Rowan Felted Tweed

This project makes me nervous. Not because of the technical skills involved, but because it is my first full-size manly sweater knitted for my darling. I did try to start a thicker Vogue sweater a while ago with a lovely textural pattern. Kristofer squeezed the swatch and dismissed it as too thick. What will he think of this one? I want the sweater for him to be perfect!

So… I took a deep breath and decided that it will be okay. No matter how it turns out . It will not be the last sweater I knit for him. It will more likely be the first one we make silly jokes about.

Transitions

If I was a responsible knitter and mama I would have finished the two sweaters for my kids in time for the cold weather. I guess I am not. I am close, but not yet finished with Tyras mohair sweater and Ivars Hundertwasser sweater. The weather outside is freezing, they were actually talking about snow today. My conscience is killing me. My list of good intentions is far too long. I find myself in a place of transition. Wanting to do and make so much more than I really have the time for.

Ok. I am done with the whining now.

If you have found this place I call a blog I welcome you! I am so happy to share this little corner of the internet with you and I hope you will come back soon. If anything looks or behaves wonky, please give me a hoot. Or just comment whenever. I love comments.

I am moving! (in a month or so)

I am secretly working on transfering all my old posts to a new home. It will be up and running within a month, but I will keep the wherabouts secret until it looks fine.

Did you know that my very first post was written the 27th of October 2004? That is almost three years ago! How do you suggest I celebrate it - a competition, a cake, gifts?

My knitting WIP list is embarrasing. I tend to find clever hiding places for my WIPs whenever I run into some difficulties with the pattern. It is so silly. I should really just take a photo and ask for help. And when I cannot find my most recent WIP I tend to cast on for something new. Bah. This is what I am working on at the moment:

A little sweater for Ivar in Opal Hundertwasser yarn on 3 mm (US 2 1/2) needles.

SSSP is a Secret Swedish Swap Pal

My secret Swedish Swap Pal was the lovely Lena, who has spoiled me with wonderful and thoughtful gifts. I especially love knitting with the ebony needles she gave me. And I would never have imagined that stich holders could be so useful.

In turn, I have tried to spoil Johanna with secret parcels of yarny goodness. I suck at deadlines, but she has been really patient with me. Actually, I guess I will not participate in any more “official” swaps - but I am totally up for personal swaps. :) Btw - Saskia, I hope you are doing fine. I am busy wrapping in some cute stuff for you.

If you happen to be a Ravelry user, my identity over there is “minemma”. Please do not hesitate to stop by and say hi!

My fathers garden

Me and the kids spent a few days at my dads house and had a lovely time exploring all the flowers, patting cats and eating outdoors. I even had some time to start a new knitting project. This will eventually (soon) turn into a little zippered baby vest for Ivar. At least I hope it will. I really hope it will. My last self-made project is currently on hold because of pattern issues (or the lack of a pattern).

The yarn is Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton. I love how soft it is and how fast it knits up, but I worry about some future pilling.

Sorry for not blogging in a while. I have some updates and what better way to do is there but to show you some photos?

A lovely, yummy parcel from my Swedish Secret Pal (Hemlis) with luxorius chocolate and coffe. There is nothing left of this today…

The most recent parcel from my SP with 1-ply wool yarn from Ulspinneriet Öland (with a great scarf pattern) and a pair of beautiful Susanna’s Ebony needles. I cannot wait to try all of this!

Tyra turned five this month and had at least two cakes and parties. She expressed some concern before her birthday. She said that she did not want to be five, since she do not care for becoming an adult. Tyra woke up relieved and happy to find that those thing does not happen overnight.

Mail day

A lovely package arrived today from my Secret Pal, Hemlis-vännen, with two (!) pattern books, some yummy chocolate and a note. Thanks -Tack kära du! Du träffade alldeles rätt.:) I had a really hard time keeping my hands off the chocolate before I could take a photo. The books are ‘Design Stickat’ by Jytte Slente and ‘Lust att sticka’ by Katarina Brieditis. Both books gave me a lot of inspiration for new projects.

Another cute parcel arrived with an order from tinyhappy with pants for Ivar. Melissas sweet note and an extra treat made my heart skip a beat. This was also my first order on Etsy, which was a very pleasant experience.

Yarn, tea and forgiveness

Welcome to my kitchen table for a cup of refreshing peppermint tea. Oh, what is that on the table? Please feel free to sit down and feel the springy wool and the shiny fuzzy alpaca. I have brought home a big load of Peruvian wool and two cones of alpaca, both off white, from Marias Garn. It is finally time to tackle a manly project and knit a sweater for my darling Kristofer. He liked a pattern from the winter issue of Vogue Knitting. Hope it will work out. It should be a relatively quick knit. The boyfriend sweater curse only applies to actual boy friends, right? Not husbands?

This is Ivar at four months. Is he not the cuddliest baby ever? Hehe, that is what I think anyhow. I met with a doctor last week who could explain what really happened to me at Ivar’s birth. She took the time to listen and I could feel myself finally forgive myself for letting my baby out in the world prematurely. I have somehow been walking around with a feeling of guilt convinced that something was seriously wrong with me. Well, this wonderful doctor peeled that belief off me layer by layer. There is nothing wrong with me! Well, apart from what was already ‘wrong’, but that is something completely different and I will not bore you with it.

Happy spring!

New stuff

I have started a new project.

Something a would have had in my New Year resolutions if I had made any. It is a sweater. For me. And the biggest thing I have knitted thus far. I am using some stash alpacka yarn for it and I have made up the pattern for it using inspiration from numerous patterns in magazines and on the internet. It was impossible to find exactly what I wanted in an existing pattern.

Basic instructions on how you calculate and knit a top down raglan sweater can be found here and here.

Hope you are having a happy Easter!

Hemlis!

This is a Q&A list in swedish for a secret pal swap called ‘Hemlis’.

1. Vilken sorts garn tycker du mest om? (Ull, akryl, bomull osv.)

Warming Candle Flame Shawl

The Candle Flame Shawl is finished! Here it is in all its unblocked glory. It is nice and warm and snug.

Pattern:
Yarn: Östergötlands ullspinneri
Needles: 4,5 mm Addi Turbo circular

I am actually a bit afraid of blocking it, since I am very fond of the texture of the shawl. Now, all I need is a great pin and it will be a perfect gift. I do not know who will get it just yet… I loved the process of knitting this shawl, every single stitch of it. It prepared me for knitting more complicated lace, like the Shallowtail Shawl that I have been dreaming about.

I will leave you with a picture of Ivar at ten weeks. Those chubby cheeks speak for themselves, do they not? We are so relieved to see him grow. He is a talkative and happy little guy. I could plant a permanent kiss on top of his soft little head.
