Let’s Hear That String Part Again

I am growing. It is the strangest feeling to carry a new little life around with you everywhere you go. It is both a bit freaky and very cozy. I will tell you a bit more about it, but first – some knitting.

Many fellow Sthlm knitters have been knitting these beautiful Candle Flame Shawls and I finally gave in to the craving and started one myself.

It grows fast and is a fun pattern. The yarn is a wooly dream in pink and purple from a Swedish manufacturer. This is also why I will have to either gift it or swap it. Purple, however beautiful, does give my very pale skin a greenish tint.

The weather is getting colder and my four-year-old needs a new pair of socks. It gave me the perfect excuse to learn how to make two-at-once toe-up socks on a magic loop. I really wanted to avoid the mistake from last year, when we all had just one sock each when the snow fell. Tutorials can be found at Knitty.

Birthday bolero

Birthday princess cake

It was my birthday a few days ago and I had slept way too little. There was a full moon that night and I would have slept through anything but a wide-eyed four-year-old needing a little company in the moon light. I get easily irritated when someone wakes me up in the middle of the night, in fact I think I stormed out of bed to get some water and a biscuit. It is not a streak in my personality that I am particularly proud of. When I came back into Tyras bedroom I saw her standing beside the window gazing at the sky. She did not say anything. She just held out her arms for a hug. My anger simply melted.

Autumn is definitely in the air in Stockholm, with colder crisper days. My office at the museum is cold and I need something to warm my back. So I started a quick bolero which now looks like this,

A quick shrug

but will shortly turn into this:

And lastly, many thanks to lausse for this wonderful and funny idea; a knitted Leia wig! Why not? Wink

Lazy Summer

We are finally back from our vacation in Gränna and I feel extremly rested and relaxed. Almost too much so, since I could already feel the familar and annual pang of autumn creativity stirring. It could also be the new little baby somersaulting in my tummy. In just a few days we will do the ultrasound scan and know a bit more about the little one. I feel anxoius, curious and happy. Smile

I cannot say that I have knitted much, but I did finish Mollys Headband from Interweave Knits “Sweet Somethings”. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it before I gave it to a good friend. I guess I will have knit another headband just to take a proper picture. Since it was a fun and quick knit I am actually looking forward to it.

I also started what I thought would become a Little Arrowhead Scarf (also from IKs Sweet Somethings) in Debbie Bliss silk yarn. Sadly, it just had to be frogged. The pattern is beautiful, but it did not do the silk all the justice it asked for. Too much of that lovely silky luster was lost in the pattern and I decided to go for a simple straightforward pattern. I plan to add a lace border in another yarn, maybe linen or mohair. What do you think, could it work to add a completely different yarn as a kind of decoration?
