Beret love

The last beret has only just been cast off, but the urge for knitting these treats is not gone. In fact, I find myself a little obsessed in finding the perfect hat. Or hats. Just look at these beauties and tell me you can not feel a hint of that love.

First, the Cabled Rangoli Hat by Desi Knitter, which is just so beautifully cabled. I could look at those lotus shaped cables all day.

The Urchin by Ysolda Teague from Knitty Fall 07 is so cute and quirky. The construction really appeals to me - simple, straightforward with a cool finishing trick. It would be a great way to practise shortrows and grafting too.

The Big Blue Beret by Kelly Maher finds the way to my heart too. That big pompom on top of it makes me smile.

While you are at it, check out this Kaura Hat by Tikru on Flickr. I wish I could find the pattern for it too. All the patterns above are free, which I find totally amazing. Thank you so much!

Edit: This beautiful Chevron Lace Beret by Katya Frankel in the November issue of Magknits caught my eye and I just HAD to add it.

Take your time and purl

last minute purled beret

This is the Last Minute “Purled” Beret by Wendy Bernard knitted in Noro Kochoran

It does fit my head perfectly, but you all know my recent trials with the self-timer. I did try to take a photo of me and the beret. But it came out either blurry, with only my nose showing or with an insane facial expression. So I did the only logical thing and bribed my daughter with a lollipop to get a good detail shot of the beret. Lucky kid. Happy mama.

Ah, I bet you were hoping to see a finished sweater? I lost my patience with the fiddly sewing of the kids sweaters and had to have a quick fix. Besides, that Noro Kochoran yarn is way too soft and lovely to sit on a shelf for too long.

A wednesday smile

waltzing with ivar

One of our favourite pastimes is dancing together, me and Ivar. He has been enjoying music since before he was born and it is a joy to see his expressions nowadays. I know, the photo is kind of crappy with only bits of us showing and a little out of focus, but it was the best shot we got with the self-timer.

Right now we enjoy listening to Beirut. Zach Condon has a way with tunes that simply opens up my heart and makes me want to howl. Waltzing with a baby works fine too.

Check them out at their website Beirutband.com. Turn on your speakers or put or a pair of headphones and enjoy. Watch them do a street performance with my current favourite song Nantes from the album Flying Club Cup.

A fever and a few links

I am down with a slight fever. Trying to sew mohair neatly is quite impossible with sweaty hands. Not pretty.

Instead I give you a few crafty links:

Grow your own tomatoes with Bacteria Salad. An online game that might make you think about what your buy. (via Treehugger)

I want to touch everything at Manon Gignoux. Especially the beautiful fabric flowers. And the adornments. And the scarfs. Drool.

And Miles To Go” makes Apple Pie Sandwiches that look exceptionally yummy.

I would love to make some of these Brown Paper Bag Lanterns from Green Living.

Cobblestones

Do you call it a cast on when you are still swatching? Well, I have swatched for the Cobblestone pullover by Jared Flood (who has a beautiful blog btw) from Interweave Knits. I will work but I am not hitting exact gauge. I am substituting the recommended yarn for Rowan Felted Tweed.

Rowan Felted Tweed

This project makes me nervous. Not because of the technical skills involved, but because it is my first full-size manly sweater knitted for my darling. I did try to start a thicker Vogue sweater a while ago with a lovely textural pattern. Kristofer squeezed the swatch and dismissed it as too thick. What will he think of this one? I want the sweater for him to be perfect!

So… I took a deep breath and decided that it will be okay. No matter how it turns out . It will not be the last sweater I knit for him. It will more likely be the first one we make silly jokes about.

Transitions

If I was a responsible knitter and mama I would have finished the two sweaters for my kids in time for the cold weather. I guess I am not. I am close, but not yet finished with Tyras mohair sweater and Ivars Hundertwasser sweater. The weather outside is freezing, they were actually talking about snow today. My conscience is killing me. My list of good intentions is far too long. I find myself in a place of transition. Wanting to do and make so much more than I really have the time for.

Ok. I am done with the whining now.

If you have found this place I call a blog I welcome you! I am so happy to share this little corner of the internet with you and I hope you will come back soon. If anything looks or behaves wonky, please give me a hoot. Or just comment whenever. I love comments.
